Long week

After two days of sleep, sleep, sleep at the beginning of the week, the end wore me out!

Weds: 4.5 mile morning run and almost 2 hour evening, hella hilly ride
Thurs: Masters swim in the morning and Ladies Night at the K (I think I stayed for about an inning and a half!)
Fri: Morning rain led to an evening ride - and one of my riding buddies didn't show! What a slacker Caskey!

This is going to be a big training weekend again (as usual!). 12 mile run Saturday morning. I'm going to run with The Runners Edge - a group I haven't tried out before. Sunday is a 45 mile ride, after volunteering at the kids tri out at Longview Lake. And I have to get a tough swim workout in one of the days as well.

In other news, I had a great work meeting today with a potential donor. Could turn into a very good thing! That definitely helped my frustrations of late.

*Special thanks to all my training buddies this week. It is so helpful to have friends to do these tough workouts with. It makes it so much easier and a TON of fun!

Sawing logs...

So its Friday afternoon.... the past three days I've done 6 am workouts.

I am beat.

Trying to get some work done. Really would rather be napping. I'm supposed to still get in at least a 2000m swim tonight. I hope I can make that happen.

I was so proud of myself for getting my butt out of bed the past few days. I think its really going to pay off. This morning's ride was beautiful. I had great company, perfect temperature and some grueling hills. Everything was going swimmingly until I bit it. Again. Of course, I had to jinx myself by talking about my past wrecks while riding. Thats what I get. No real injuries. My shoulder is a bit sore since thats where the bulk of my weight landed. And my handlebar is bent, but that should be fixable. All the more reason to get a new bike right?!

Big training weekend coming up. Long bike Saturday morning, followed by a fabulous pool party and then a really frickin early morning Sunday to volunteer at the Midwest Mayhem at Lone Star Lake then do an 11-mile run with Chels and the pooches. I also might go see OAR in concert Sunday night. Depending on the nap situation...it could be fun! (Speaking of OAR the new CD is really good!)

Here's to Friday. TGIF!

Masters Swim

So my coach had me scheduled to swim last night...but I chose a social life over training. So I got up this morning for Masters Swim at my gym.

Wow. Let me tell you. I. AM. SLOW. Hopefully the guys that I was sharing a lane with didn't mind too much. I tried to stay out of their way. When fast lanes did a 500.... I might have gotten a 350 in. The fast lanes were definitely doing a 100 at the end in the time it took me to do a 50.

But I have to remember, that I'm a new swimmer, and these guys have been doing it a while. One is even a sub-10 hour Ironman guy... And another one was ... really, really cute. :-) I wonder if he has a girlfriend, or if he gives swim instruction... but I digress.

At least I got my butt up and in the water this morning. And the chlorine didn't even hurt my foot as bad as I thought it would! Hooray! Too bad I still can't do open water for a little while. Luckily, its healing. Though my last bike and run were pretty painful. I can tell its getting better.

Now if I can get myself motivated to be productive today, then it will sooner be time to be back on the bike this afternoon for hill training. My favorite thing in the world...

Debriding

Then she ripped off the existing scab and the photo is what remains. I'm supposed to stay out of the lake for a couple weeks (til its completely healed), which ruins my weekend lake plans with the girls! And then I have to soak it daily and keep it clean, neosporin-ed and bandaged. Which also means that I have to take a bunch of ibuprofen for the pain, and potentially stay out of my cycling shoes. Not good for my training plans this week.

SMP Recap

Another early morning... Another triathlon finish! Its hard to believe that this was only my third race!

Shawnee Mission Park... hilly as all hell. But we had great great great weather today!

The swim: Seemed like a lot further than 1000m. The water temperature was great, but I struggled through the swim. It was hard to get my breathing and heart rate to mellow out. Luckily, I was able to just "pull through" and get to land!

The bike: I am so happy with how this went!! Every other time I've rode at SMP, I've struggled a LOT on the dam hill. My heart rate goes up to about 160-165 and the asthma kicks in. Its really not fun. Amazingly, today, it was hard to get up the hill - but I did great! I averaged about 17 mph over the four laps. And riding in aero on the flat part was really comfortable. Hooray!!

The run: Coulda, shoulda, woulda. My stomach was so upset during the run. A pit stop couldn't even help me. It ended up being a lot slower than I wanted, but there really wasn't anything I could do about it.

I finished just shy of 2:30 which is what I wanted to do, so I guess I'm happy. Not my best race overall, but it was fun. And of course, the KC Multisport after-party was a good time. Now its back to the grindstone... and I'm going to really work on my nutrition from here til CHI. Wish me luck!

(Somehow I got in the Athena category, so I finished second!)
